Turkoglu pushes host Turkey past Russia

ANKARA, Turkey (AP)—Hedo Turkoglu(notes), acquired recently by the Phoenix Suns,scored 14 points to lead Turkey to a 65-56 victory over Russia on Sunday at thebasketball world championship.
Ersan Ilyasova(notes) and Omer Asik(notes) added 10 points each for Turkey (2-0), the hostcountry for the 24-team tournament.
Turkey led 33-22 at halftime after holding Russia to seven points in thesecond quarter.
Sasha Kaun(notes) and Sergey Monya scored 13 points each for Russia (1-1), whichfinished 17 for 53 from the field (32. percent), including an 8-for-28 effortfrom 3-point range.
Turkey led 48-37 after three quarters and Russia got no closer than sevenpoints the rest of the way.
