Williams’ 28 and 17 lift Jazz past Bulls

CHICAGO (AP)—Deron Williams(notes) got the better of Derrick Rose(notes), finishing with 28points and a season-high 17 assists, while CJ Miles(notes) scored a season-best 26points Tuesday night to lead the Utah Jazz to a 132-108 victory over the ChicagoBulls.
Williams threw down a hard dunk on Rose during a 13-1 run late in the thirdquarter that broke a 77-all tie and sent Utah to its 22nd win in 27 games. Milesscored 16 in the fourth, hitting four of his six 3-pointers, as the Jazzoutscored Chicago 40-27 and secured at least a .500 record for the 26th time in27 years.
With 25 points and a career-high tying 13 assists, Rose didn’t exactly getdominated in a matchup of star point guards. But the Bulls tied a season highwith their fifth straight loss even though Brad Miller(notes) scored 20.

Luol Deng(notes) added 14 points after missing practice the previous day with flusymptoms, but sat out the fourth quarter because of a strained right calf,another blow for a team in the middle of a brutal nine-game stretch againstcontenders.
Neither team played much defense, with Utah shooting 54.2 percent andChicago 53.9, but the Jazz came away with their ninth road win in 11 games andpulled within one of Northwest Division leader Denver.
Besides the big games from Williams and Miles, Utah got 16 points and 10rebounds from Carlos Boozer(notes). Paul Millsap(notes) added 16 points and nine rebounds, andMehmet Okur(notes) scored 14.
Williams’ big dunk on Rose came with about four minutes left in the third,when he took a feed from Wesley Matthews(notes) on a 2-on-1, and threw down aone-hander that drew oohs and ahs from the crowd, making it 83-77.
Miles finished the run with a 3-pointer that made it 90-78 with 1:27 left inthe quarter and did his part to bury the Bulls in the fourth.
As for the point guards, Williams (16 points, 10 assists) and Rose (10points, 11 assists) each had double-doubles in a blistering first half that sawneither team really bother to defend and Utah walk off with a 63-61 lead.
While the Bulls nailed 25-of-40 shots, the Jazz were almost cold bycomparison, converting 25 of 48.
Yet they led by as much as much as eight and were still up by two despite alast-minute push by Chicago. Miller, who scored 15 in the half, buried a 3 fromup top and Flip Murray(notes) converted a layup off a no-look pass from Rose to make it63-61 with 35 seconds left.
Chicago had a chance to tie it after a shot-clock violation against Utahwith 2.5 seconds remaining, but Deng missed a 3-pointer.
NOTES: Jazz coach Jerry Sloan didn’t realize there was a life-sized actionshot of him in the hallway near the Bulls’ locker. “Is that right?” he said.Sloan didn’t pass by his picture when the Jazz entered the arena.
